Linnell Keeling, Founder, Creator, Head Photographer, Head Model

Linnell's journey through breast cancer has been a complex and challenging path. Diagnosed in July 2018 with invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC), ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), and stage IIIC inflammatory breast cancer, Her2+, she faced a rigorous treatment regimen that included six rounds of chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy, approximately 35 rounds of radiation, and a radical hysterectomy.

Throughout her treatment, Linnell encountered various treatment options, yet she quickly realized that the conventional approach of implants was not suited to her needs or desires. This decision marked an important step in her healing process, reflecting her commitment to embracing her body and her experience as a survivor. Seeking alternatives to implants opened the door for exploring different reconstruction methods, allowing Linnell to align her physical transformation with her sense of self.

Her story is a testament to the resilience of breast cancer survivors and the importance of personalized care in reconstruction options. By sharing her experience, Linnell aims to empower others who may feel uncertain or overwhelmed by the choices available to them post-treatment. Her journey stands as a reminder of the strength found in making informed decisions and celebrating the diverse paths of recovery within the breast cancer community.

Scars of Beauty was born from a deep desire to celebrate the resilience and strength of breast cancer survivors. The journey through breast cancer, marked by challenges and triumphs, often leaves visible reminders in the form of scars. These scars tell powerful stories of survival and transformation that deserve recognition and honor.

Through her work, the founder aims to illuminate the inherent beauty found in these journeys. Each photograph captures not just a moment, but also the essence of each woman's experience, reflecting how she sees them—strong, courageous, and beautifully unique. This project is not just about showcasing physical transformation; it's about empowering women to embrace their bodies, scars and all.

A crucial aspect of Scars of Beauty is raising awareness about the many reconstruction options available. Many women are led to believe that breast implants are their only choice after surgery. By sharing diverse stories and experiences, the project seeks to educate and inform women about alternative paths, encouraging them to make informed decisions that resonate with their personal journeys.

Ultimately, Scars of Beauty invites women to reclaim their narrative, to find joy and pride in their bodies post-recovery, and to connect with a community that celebrates every scar as a testament to survival.
