These empowering photos, captured at Cheesman Park in the heart of Denver, showcase the collaboration between Scars of Beauty and photographer Bonnie Sizer of Bonnie Photo. The images beautifully illustrate the strength and resilience of breast cancer survivors.

In the group photo, each participant represents a specific breast or gynecological cancer through color symbolism:

  • Inflammatory breast cancer: Orange, hot pink, and black

  • Metastatic breast cancer: Teal, pink, and green

  • Triple negative breast cancer: Teal, pink, and blue

  • Male breast cancer: Pink and blue

  • Hereditary and gynecological cancer: Pink and teal

This powerful visual representation encompasses all forms of breast cancer, creating a striking and meaningful composition.

For the individual portraits, survivors were encouraged to express their authentic personalities. Some chose to make bold statements, symbolically saying "FU" to cancer, showcasing their defiance and triumph over the disease.

These photographs capture the essence of beauty, grace, strength, and resilience embodied by each survivor. The Scars of Beauty project not only raises awareness but also celebrates the courage and individuality of those who have faced breast cancer.

Through these empowering photographs, Scars of Beauty aims to foster a sense of community, encouraging survivors to connect with one another and share their journeys. The project not only highlights the diverse forms of breast cancer reconstruction but also aims to redefine societal perceptions of beauty, celebrating scars as symbols of survival and triumph. Ultimately, the photography shoots empower individuals to reclaim their identity and inspire others faced with similar battles.
